Polysorbate 85, also known as polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan trioleate consists of sorbitol, ethylene oxide and oleic acid. It has a molecular formula of C100H188O28. At room temperature, it is in the form of a pale-yellow to orange oily liquid. It is an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 11.0. It is soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate and acetone; it is also soluble in most mineral and vegetable oil. And it can disperse in water. In crude oil production, polysorbate 85 acts as emulsifier, paraffin inhibitor.

3. Used as softener and antistatic agent in textile industry, it is a softener for spinning finishes and after-processing of polyacrylonitrile fiber, which can eliminate static electricity, improve its softness and give fiber good dyeing performance.

Used as a stabilizer and foaming aid in the production of polyurethane foam plastics; used as an antistatic agent in synthetic fibers and an intermediate of chemical fiber oils; used as a wetting agent and dispersant in film films of photosensitive materials; used as an emulsifying silicone oil in the waterproof process of fabrics, it has good effect and is also used in nylon and viscose curtains. As an oil and water soluble emulsifier .It is oftenapplied together with S-80.
